UNESCO and the Latin American Association of Communication Researchers (ALAIC) signed an agreement in the framework of the International Programme for the Development of Communication (IPDC). The restructuring of the ALAIC website and production of the Latin American Journal of Communication Science are among the activities to be implemented under this agreement.
The new partnership between UNESCO and ALAIC includes the organization of academic events and participation of researchers in the production of the Latin American Journal of Communication Science. These activities are to be financed by UNESCO’s IPDC.

In the upcoming months an International Seminar on Freedom of Expression and Media Pluralism in Latin America will gather together researchers from the region. Local seminars in the countries directly involved in the project, Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil and Mexico, are also planned to take place in the near future.

Among the topics to be discussed in the forthcoming meetings are the content of the ALAIC web portal, the production and format of the Latin American Journal of Communication Science and other matters related to freedom of expression, media development indicators and training of media professionals.

ALAIC is an international non-profit association, which focuses on gathering together and supporting the Latin American scientific community specializing in communication research, with the aim of increasing and improving the work in this field. It also seeks to promote free investigation, recognition for the field, legal protection and fair pay for Latin American researchers in the field of communication.
