UNESCO’s Bangkok Office starts new ICT in education project funded by Korean government
‘Facilitating Effective ICT-Pedagogy Integration’ is a three-year project, supported by the Korean-Funds-In-Trust (KFIT) to promote better collaboration between teacher-education institutions and the network of primary and secondary schools. Through this project, pre-service teachers can get a taste of the school environment, while those who are already in service can update their knowledge with new teaching practices using ICT.
To monitor the progress of implementation, the first meeting of the project Steering Committee took place on 3 February 2010. The Director of UNESCO’s Bangkok Office is heads this group composed of representatives of the donor and recipient institutions, as well as of experts in the area. Together, they are expected to provide overall guidance to the project and make sure that original objectives are achieved by the end of three years.

Immediately following the Steering Committee meeting, an experts’ meeting discussed in detail the fundamentals of the project implementation. The discussion mainly focused on the promotion of project-based learning (PBL), a new pedagogy promoting student-centred learning, facilitated by the use of technologies. Experts also considered the concept of tele-collaboration between schools in the same country or between schools from different countries.

The first workshop under this project will take place in Penang, Malaysia, from 23 to 25 February 2010. Around 50 participants will come from various universities and schools in Penang. They will discuss ways to better link teacher educators in the universities with teachers in the schools. After the workshop, participants will take part in PBL and tele-collaboration with each other. The expected result is the discovery of a new way of teaching and learning.

Donors, teacher-education institutions, schools and teachers interested to be part of this project can contact Dr Feng-chun Miao at f.miao@unesco.org.
