Moderated e-Forum discussion on greening TVET
UNEVOC e-Forum, 22 October - 2 November 2012
Welcome to the UNEVOC virtual conference, moderated by Kai Gleissner. The topic of this moderator-driven discussion is ‘Greening TVET for sustainable development’ and it will be held on the UNEVOC e-Forum.
The changing nature of industry and work, the pressures of global financial crisis and the limitations and opportunities posed by climate change and other environmental imperatives have a major impact on business, industry and society as a whole. At the same time, new technologies and emerging industries demand for skilled workers who understand the concept of sustainable development, as well as technical knowledge about green ways of working.
This discussion seeks to explore the concept of greening TVET and gather feedback and experiences on this issue from the international TVET community. The discussion will:
- Review current trends and international discourse for greening TVET and sustainable development;
- Comprehend country perspective of best practices in reorienting towards greening TVET in support of ESD;
- Discuss different ways of assess working fields of green jobs;
- Review and discuss concepts for integration of greening TVET into the education curriculum;
- Assimilate innovative and applied education concepts for TVET;
- Discuss the role of TVET teachers in the working fields of greening TVET;
- Formulate directives and strategies for building capacity in reorienting towards greening TVET in pursuit of ESD.
Mr Kai Gleissner from the Otto-von-Guericke University Magdeburg (Germany) will be moderating this discussion. In the context of his work for the Otto-von-Guericke University Magdeburg, Mr Gleissner has conducted research in the area of sustainable development and international vocational education and has published various publications on this topic. Mr Gleissner is also the coordinator of the UNEVOC Centre “TVET for Sustainable Development” in Magdeburg, Germany, a consortium of three institutions, namely the Otto-von-Guericke University Magdeburg, the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) and Fraunhofer Institute for Factory Operation and Automation.
