Soul City, a multi-media health project in South Africa has been effective in imparting much needed information on health and development, and in changing attitudes and behaviour as well. Soul City works primarily within South Africa but the TV programme has been shown in a number of African countries as well. In the last two years Soul City has worked on a sponsored education booklet called Choose Life, aimed at 12-16 year olds in Botswana, Lesotho, Swaziland and Namibia. 1,331,000 copies of the booklet will be printed and distributed in the four countries in seven different languages. …

The document "HIV/AIDS: The Power of Education" transcribes the speeches pronounced by different specialists at the opening ceremony of the UNICA/UWI/UNESCO Conference on HIV/AIDS and Education, in October 29, 2003. The report is the outcome of the third meeting of the two-years measurement project which aims to develop tools, indicators and methodologies to determine the extent to which programming efforts are making a difference to the health and development of adolescents. The project was funded by the Rockefeller Foundation with additional funding from UNFPA, WHO and UNICEF. The Intercountry Consultation on Development of Strategies for Adolescent Health for South-East Asia Region of WHO was held from 26-29 May 1998 in New Delhi, India. The meeting was participated by representatives of countries from the health education, youth, women and NGO sectors as well as by UN agencies and observers. The objectives of the meeting were to review the health situation and issues related to adolescents in South-East Asia; to develop strategies for health and development of adolescents involving stake-holders from relevant sectors; and to plan for follow-up actions.
