In addition, Pakistan has one of the largest cohorts of young people in the world - 60% of the nearly 160,000,000 are under the age of 24 years. Teachers have an instrumental role to play in the achievement of the Education for All (EFA) goals, which aim to meet the learning needs of every child, youth and adult by 2015. Without teachers, the endeavour to provide EFA cannot be achieved. Teachers also have a critical role to play in school-based HIV prevention efforts. …

This call to action is a result of the gathering of 50 participants, coming from 8 countries in Eastern and Southern Africa, representing nongovernmental organisations, institutions of higher learning, church organisations, Southern African Development Community (SADC), UNICEF, UNAIDS, Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) and youth interested in psychosocial support for children affected by AIDS.
