The IIEP HIV/AIDS Forum was conceived with two themes in mind - of information sharing and of community building. It aimed to create a virtual network of education professionals working against HIV/AIDS, while promoting the exchange of successful interventions, and establishing consistency within programme development. The participants represented more than 50 countries from all over the world, with more than half from Africa. The Adolescence Education Programme (AEP) was launched in 2005 as a response to the needs of adolescents by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), in collaboration with the National AIDS Control Organization, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, to be implemented in all the state government schools in the country. Concurrently, a separate programme supported by MHRD and UNFPA is also being implemented by key national agencies of school education. …
Soul City, a multi-media health project in South Africa has been effective in imparting much needed information on health and development, and in changing attitudes and behaviour as well. Soul City works primarily within South Africa but the TV programme has been shown in a number of African countries as well. In the last two years Soul City has worked on a sponsored education booklet called Choose Life, aimed at 12-16 year olds in Botswana, Lesotho, Swaziland and Namibia. 1,331,000 copies of the booklet will be printed and distributed in the four countries in seven different languages. …
The Sex Education Forum is a unique collaboration of diverse organisations representing children, parents, faith, disability, health and education. We believe thatáall children and young people are entitled to high quality sex and relationships education (SRE), which includes learning about HIV and AIDS. The House of Lords began an ad-hoc Select Committee on HIV and AIDS in the United Kingdom in January 2011 and is due to report in July 2011. One of the things the committee is investigating is whether education about HIV and AIDS is adequate and how to improve it. …

The document "HIV/AIDS: The Power of Education" transcribes the speeches pronounced by different specialists at the opening ceremony of the UNICA/UWI/UNESCO Conference on HIV/AIDS and Education, in October 29, 2003. It is a wake-up call for the education sector to rise to the fundamental challenge of tackling the disease head-on. It states that HIV/AIDS is an important public health issue which needs to be confronted with a strong education response. Indeed, in absence of an effective vaccine to definitely fight against AIDS; education is the best way to prevent new infections.

The report is the outcome of the third meeting of the two-years measurement project which aims to develop tools, indicators and methodologies to determine the extent to which programming efforts are making a difference to the health and development of adolescents. The project was funded by the Rockefeller Foundation with additional funding from UNFPA, WHO and UNICEF. The meeting aimed to review achievements on measurement and to exchange information on activities. …
