  1. Education and HIV and AIDS in Southern Africa. Policy and Programme Action Brief

    Both general education and HIV and AIDS-related education have a role to play in protecting girls from infection. Two recent estimates of the scale of the effect are similar and suggest that each additional year of education leads to a 6.7% (Uganda) or 7% (South Africa) reduction in likelihood of acquiring infection. The protective effects of education may be particularly strong for girls.

    This report summarises the deliberations of the National Consultative Forum on the Education Sector's Response to Adolescent Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights in Nigeria. The National Council on Education (NCE) has since 1999 recognised the unique role of education in preventing and mitigating the impact of sexual and reproductive health diseases including HIV/AIDS. It is aimed at providing materials for students and teacher training on life skills and HIV and AIDS education, which will be used for the training of teachers, who will implement the education curricula.
