This Country paper on HIV/AIDS and Education in Namibia was presented at IIEP workshop organized in September 2000 in Paris. It describes the current status and recent trends in the Namibian education sector and provides an overview of future directions and requirements, presenting programmes on HIV/AIDS in the country and their objectives. The role of education in addressing issues of HIV/AIDS is outlined, with a particular mission of the HIV/AIDS Committee and its five years plan (2001-2006). Finally, the training needs of the Ministry of Basic Education, Sports and Culture are identified.
The IIEP HIV/AIDS Forum was conceived with two themes in mind - of information sharing and of community building. It aimed to create a virtual network of education professionals working against HIV/AIDS, while promoting the exchange of successful interventions, and establishing consistency within programme development. The participants represented more than 50 countries from all over the world, with more than half from Africa. The Roundtable Discussion on the Philippine Situation and Response Analysis on HIV, Drugs and Sexuality aimed to present and validate the research findings of the Draft Report on the Philippine Education Sector’s Response to HIV, Drugs and Sexuality prepared by the University of the East and commissioned by UNESCO Jakarta. The results of the study will support the strengthening of coordination, implementation and scale-up of a comprehensive education sector response to HIV and be used as a background document for the development of a strategic plan involving all the stakeholders. …
This document is a synthesis report on a workshop on the impact of HIV/AIDS on education that was held at the IIEP in December 1993. The introductory part of the report gives a brief description of the international context and summarizes an overview of the possible impact of HIV/AIDS on education. The Regional Youth MSM and Transgender Consultation Meeting was held in Bangkok, Thailand, from 1-3 September 2010. 33 participants from 13 countries in Southeast Asia and Pacific regions participated in this meeting. Through presentations from various partners, the meeting provided the participants with key information they need in order to move forward with their activities. They were equipped with information on communication and partnership with technology, programs for PLHIV, existing regional responses and existing networks for youth and MSM/TG in this region.
In June 2011, world leaders unanimously adopted the UN General Assembly Political Declaration on AIDS that laid out ambitious targets for the global HIV response. While the International Organisation of La Francophonie (IOF) has made considerable progress towards these targets, its member countries are characterized by marked variations in access to treatment and prevention services as well as inadequate funding from both international and domestic sources. …
