    For the past 22 years, SIECUS has tracked sexuality education controversies in the United States. In this controversy report, covering the 2014–2015 school year, we highlight trends in sexuality education controversies including the impact that social and digital media are having in the field of sexuality education, allowing for new and alternative forms of sexuality education that is accessible to students, whether through a YouTube video, a smartphone app, or a website.

  11. Safe space for young people: a review of the school AIDS education program

    The School AIDS Education Program (SAEP) is a key intervention that aims at providing preventive education to young people in schools and is a critical component of the preventive intervention for the general community as no other institutional system reaches as many children as the school system.   12. Process evaluation of a school-based HIV/AIDS intervention in South Africa

    This paper presents a process evaluation that assessed the fidelity and quality of implementation, as well as the acceptability and subjective evaluations of a HIV/AIDS intervention among students and teachers. Methods: The process evaluation was conducted as part of a cluster randomized controlled trial of a theory- and evidence-based school HIV/AIDS intervention in Cape Town. The intervention was designed for grade 8 high school students and delivered by teachers over a six-month period. Twenty-six schools participated in the trial, 13 in the intervention group and 13 in the control group. …

    The Safe Schools program has just released the Quantitative Research Instrument to Measure School-Related Gender-Based Violence, which details the sampling methodology, interview guidelines, and suggested preliminary data analysis of a recently conducted study to assess the knowledge, attitudes, practices, and experiences of boys and girls and teachers with gender-based physical, psychological and sexual violence at schools including in the classroom and on the school grounds as well as going to and from school.
