La publicación ha sido elaborada como parte del proyecto “Educación y Respeto para la prevención y atención del bullying homofóbico y transfóbico de las instituciones educativas”, con apoyo del Ministerio de Educación, Cultura y Ciencia de los Países Bajos. Este documento considera un abordaje amplio de los tipos de violencia escolar que afectan la región, sobre todo la violencia homofóbica y transfóbica. Asimismo, presenta instrumentos para un mejor desarrollo y seguridad de los estudiantes, garantizando así el goce de sus derechos, especialmente el derecho a la educación.

On 3 November 2015, a joint dialogue on sexual orientation and gender identity was held between the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights (African Commission or ACHPR), Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (Inter-American Commission or IACHR), and United Nations (UN) human rights mechanisms in Banjul, The Gambia, ahead of the 57th ordinary session of the African Commission. À partir de résultats tirés d’une enquête par questionnaire auprès de 2747 élèves de l’école secondaire québécoise et d’entrevues auprès de jeunes s’identifiant comme lesbiennes, gais, bisexuel(le)s ou en questionnement (LGBQ) ou comme trans, cet article propose une réflexion sur les violences prenant pour cible l’expression de genre à l’école. Plus du tiers des élèves s’identifiant comme hétérosexuels rapportent avoir été victimes de violences parce qu’on pense qu’ils sont, ou parce qu’ils sont gais. C’est également le cas de plus des deux tiers des élèves LGBQ. …
À partir de 22 entretiens et de 243 questionnaires d’enquête complétés par des enseignants du secondaire du Québec (Canada), cet article interroge l’existence de normes relatives au genre et à l’orientation sexuelle en milieu scolaire. This resource enables teachers to explore the human rights of sexual minority groups with children and young people. LGBTI stands for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Intersex people. These activities are designed to enable young people to use language positively, to celebrate diversity and tolerance. Teachers of primary, secondary and FE students can look at the suggested age-range of each activity and select appropriately for their students. Activities meet statutory curricular requirements across the UK.

Background: People who identity as lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) have specific health needs. Sexual orientation and gender identity are social determinants of health, as homophobia and heteronormativity persist as prejudices in society. LGBT patients often experience discrimination and prejudice in health care settings. While recent South African policies recognise the need for providing LGBT specific health care, no curricula for teaching about LGBT health related issues exist in South African health sciences faculties. …
Every student has a right to learn in a safe environment. Yet for students who face bullying and harassment, schools and other educational settings can be fundamentally unsafe places. Bullying can take multiple forms, including: teasing, name-calling and labelling, physical abuse, sexual assault and social exclusion. Bullying not only threatens a child’s right to education, but it undermines other fundamental rights to health, safety, dignity and freedom from discrimination. Analysis of the Census 2001 indicates that between 2 and 10% of the population may be lesbian, gay or bisexual.
