This issue of Population Bulletin reviews the evolution of national population policies, particularly following the historic 1994 Cairo conference. It describes the new focus on improving reproductive health and women's rights and how governments have tried to incorporate this new approach in their policies and programs. This report summarises the deliberations of the National Consultative Forum on the Education Sector's Response to Adolescent Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights in Nigeria. The National Council on Education (NCE) has since 1999 recognised the unique role of education in preventing and mitigating the impact of sexual and reproductive health diseases including HIV/AIDS.
