The Sudan HIV/AIDS Working Group (SHAWG) is a voluntary network of healthcare professionals with interest in HIV/AIDS. SHAWG was founded by Sudanese expatriates working as HIV specialists in the United Kingdom and South Africa and was officially launched in a press conference held in Khartoum on 10 August 2008. This report addresses the challenges and opportunities pertaining to the current level of support received by patients before and after being diagnosed with HIV in Sudan. The magnitude of support at community and hospital levels will be reviewed and a package of interventions proposed. …

This qualitative study in Busia District focused on the views of teenagers themselves as expressed in nine focus group discussions with girls and boys. Their perspectives were contrasted with those of community leaders and mothers of adolescents. The young people blamed teenage pregnancy on failures of the parental generation. They asserted that parents and guardians were both too lenient and too harsh, that they failed to provide for their daughters' needs, and that they pressured them into early marriages instead of giving priority to education. …
This protocol has been developed to meet a need for guidance on counseling of children and their parents/guardians about HIV/AIDS in 30 USAID/FHI projects with orphans and vulnerable children (OVC) under the IMPACT project in India.
