This review of socio-economic empowerment initiatives for women living with HIV in Asia complements the assessment of the Women and Wealth Project (WWP), supported by the United Nations Development Programme Asia-Pacific Regional Centre and implemented by the Population and Community Development Association of Thailand. The purpose of this review is to compare the approach used in the WWP with those employed in other ten similar initiatives in Cambodia, China, India, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam and make recommendations based upon the findings of the WWP assessment and the review.
The National Strategic Plan for a Comprehensive and Multisectoral Response to HIV/AIDS 2006-2010 (NSP II) was originally developed in 2005. This revised version of the NSP II covers the remaining three years (2008-2010) and concerns an update. The revised NSP II is part of the National Strategic Development Plan (NSDP) for 2006-2010, which in turn supports the Royal Government's Rectangular Strategy for the development of Cambodia. This study examines the institutional arrangements established to address the challenges of HIV and AIDS in Zimbabwe. The first part of the study looks specifically at the Zimbabwe National AIDS Council (ZNAC) - its organisational structure and, to a limited extent, its programmes - while the second part of the study looks at selected non-governmental organisations (NGOs). This comparison is about clarifying the multi-sectoral approach with an attempt to understand the different and unique roles of each institution. …
