Pubertal changes in girls and boys are treated differently in school materials in New Zealand. Girls are taught about menstruation in a scientific manner oriented towards reproduction, hygiene and personal stress. Boys receive more positive information about 'exciting' and 'powerful' bodily changes which they can enjoy. The picture of growing up which girls receive is relatively bleak, and is out of touch with the realities of their own lives and those of adult women around them. …

This review of socio-economic empowerment initiatives for women living with HIV in Asia complements the assessment of the Women and Wealth Project (WWP), supported by the United Nations Development Programme Asia-Pacific Regional Centre and implemented by the Population and Community Development Association of Thailand. The purpose of this review is to compare the approach used in the WWP with those employed in other ten similar initiatives in Cambodia, China, India, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam and make recommendations based upon the findings of the WWP assessment and the review.

Sex is Politics - Sexuality, Rights and Development Policies is a document produced by the Swedish Association for Sexuality Education (RFSU) in 2009 (second edition). It is eight fact sheets with information regarding sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR). The documents states that SRHR are controversial and are contested by moral conservative, religious, cultural and political forces in many parts of the world. These limitations tend to lead to a lack of information that prevent people making free, informed and reasonable decisions regarding their own sexuality and reproduction.
