The purpose of this Handbook is to provide Ministries of Education with guidelines for strengthening data collection capacities in EMIS to produce the 11 core indicators for which data are collected through the education sector. Specifically, it provides the EMIS and key stakeholders responsible for collecting data and constructing the core indicators on education and HIV and AIDS with the following guidelines and tools for: the inclusion of ten selected core indicators in the Annual School Census; and the inclusion of three core indicators in school-based surveys.

The research aims to discover whether teacher management policies, tools and practices have evolved in high prevalence settings as a response to the HIV epidemic.
The purpose of this document is two-fold. It serves as a practical training manual for World Bank staff, Ministry of Education planners and other stakeholders who wish to implement the EdSIDA model in a particular country to assist with educational planning in the face of HIV. It also serves as an introduction to the epidemiology of HIV, the impact it can have on the education sector, its scale and how this can be captured empirically by the EdSIDA model.

Within the Education Statistical Abstract 2001 published by the Ministry of Education and Sports of Uganda, details of the education system in terms of the number of pupils, by gender, schools and teachers are provided from 1963 through to 2001. The only year, over this thirty-eight year period for which there are no figures is 1969 and some of the earlier years do have missing data. All of the figures used in the analysis are drawn directly from the Education Statistical Abstract 2001 and are provided in a table at the end of this publication. …
This report summarizes a workshop to launch a pilot project known as the District Initiative to collect school-based HIV/AIDS indicators enabling ministries and planners assess the needs of the districts more effectively.
