    This article investigates the ways in which two rural Adult Basic Education and Training (ABET) Centres in the Limpopo Province address the challenges of HIV/AIDS. Theories of social capital are used to explain the different responses of the Centres. The communities surrounding both Centres face similar structural problems of poverty, unemployment, migrancy, gender inequality, poor health and low levels of education.   9. Committed to caring: Older women and HIV and AIDS in Cambodia, Thailand and Vietnam

    HIV and AIDS can prove devastating in undermining traditional support structures that sustain many families in Asia, reversing the expectation that parents will be looked after by their adult children as they become older.     Evidence has been reported that antiretroviral (ARV) interventions to either the HIV-infected mother or HIV-exposed infant can significantly reduce the risk of postnatal transmission of HIV through breastfeeding. This evidence has major implications for how women living with HIV might feed their infants, and how health workers should counsel these mothers. Together, breastfeeding and ARV intervention have the potential to significantly improve infants' chances of surviving while remaining HIV uninfected. …

    The vocational training (VT) sector has an important role to play in HIV/AIDS prevention and in impact mitigation.The young adults this sector works with not only represent the human capital that their country's future economic growth depends upon, but also the age group most at risk of HIV/AIDS infection.The approach described in this report has the objective of mainstreaming HIV/AIDS in the VT system in Botswana, in order to help prevent further infections among teachers and learners.

    This study ordered by the Ministry of Education, Science, Technology and Scientific Research of Rwanda, had four components. 1. Review of relevant documentation. 2. Meetings and consultations with various stakeholders. 3. Field visits to selected sites in various provinces and districts, in urban and rural areas. 4. A survey of adult literacy needs and desires and ongoing programme experience, which was the main component of the study.
