History
Founded Oct 1932, Amsterdam (Netherlands), as International Youth Hostels' Association -- Union internationale des auberges pour la jeunesse -- Internationale Arbeitsgemeinschaft für Jugendherbergen. Reorganized and change title to International Youth Hostel Federation (IYHF) -- Fédération internationale des auberges de la jeunesse (FIAJ) -- Federación Internacional de Albergues de la Juventud -- Internationaler Jugendherbergsverband, 1946. Current title adopted 2006.
Aims
Promote the education of all young people of all nations, especially young people of limited means, by encouraging in them a greater knowledge, love and care of the countryside and an appreciation of the cultural values of towns and cities in all parts of the world; as ancillary thereto, provide hostels or other accommodation where there are no distinctions of race, nationality, colour, religion, sex, class or political opinions; thereby develop a better understanding among young people of their fellows at home and abroad.
