Global Network for Professional Education in Journalism and Media
JourNet, the Global Network for Professional Education in Journalism and Media, was launched in 1999, following a meeting of leading journalism and media schools and institutes, convened by UNESCO in Paris, 18-19 March.
JourNet seeks to expand and improve journalism and media practice worldwide through better professional education in this field and to do so by linking educational institutions, training centres and organizations that share the ideals of UNESCO in a Network that will catalyze their cooperation and share information.
The Network takes advantage on new communication technologies to strengthen the various programs in its member institutions. Originally co-ordinated by the African Council for Communication Education in Nairobi, JourNet subsequently elected the French institution ESJ-Lille to serve as its Network Co-ordinator.
It assists its members through advice on the design and development of curricula, and information on training activities and facilities.
Membership of JourNet is open to all journalism and media schools and institutions that adhere to the basic ideals of freedom of expression and the principles laid down in the statutes (see www.journet.org).
