Regional Meeting about Slave Memory Underwater Cultural sites in Central America

A regional meeting about Slave Memory Underwater Cultural sites in Central America will take place from 24 to 26 April in Colon, Panama.
Experts from Costa Rica, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua and Panama will participate in this event organized by UNESCO San José with the support of the “Cátedra de Estudios de Africa y el Caribe” at the University of Costa Rica. Ms. Rina Cáceres, director of the program, is currently a member of the International Scientific Committee of the Slave Route project.
Some other experts form the region will attend the event with the aim to prevent the looting of underwater archaeological sites combining research, training and education to build new knowledge about the study of the slave trade in the Caribbean, particularly through the lens of slave shipwrecks.
