In 2015 the UN General Assembly has declared 11th February as the International Day for Women and Girls in Science (Document A/70/474/Add.2), in order to emphasize the need to achieve gender equality and empowerment of women and girls, crucial to reaching the targets of the Agenda 2030.
This year marks the second celebration of this Day and will be commemorated by a fence exhibition at UNESCO Headquarters among others.

The exhibition will comprise 25 panels depicting portraits of an array of women in different spheres of science, along with inspirational quotes by them in English and French. The panels are drawn from a collection entitled: INFINITES PLURIELLES. The fence exhibition is being co-organized with an external partner and benefits from the patronage of the French National Commission for UNESCO. It will be set along UNESCO’s fence on Avenue Suffren.

This year marks the second celebration of this Day, led by UNESCO and UN-Women.
The commemoration at UNESCO Headquarters also includes round tables on the thème "Gender equality in science: myth, reality and future perspectives" and a Women in Engineering Workshop: “Think Pink – Hard Hat Challenge”.
