Over 350 Youth Complete a One-Year Vocational Training Diploma Programme in Jordan
Amman, 14 January 2017: The UNESCO Office in Amman, with the generous funding of the European Union, concluded a one-year vocational training programme for over 350 Jordanian and Syrian refugee youth. The graduates earned a BTEC Level 3 diplomas from Al Quds College in Amman, Jordan. The international accredited diploma programmes offered students the choice to study one of five specializations and also take additional courses in English language, life skills, computer literacy and study skills. Ibrahim Laafia, First Councillor and Head of the Cooperation Section of the EU Delegation in Jordan, said: ' We congratulate 350 Jordanian and Syrian students who successfully completed their B-TEC level 3 diploma, you are a very special group of students. You went this year to Al Quds College under difficult circumstances and managed to deliver outstanding work, so you are all high achievers!'
The project supported the Government’s efforts to provide vocational education and training opportunities for Jordanian and Syrian refugee youth affected by the Syria Crisis and was aligned with the 2016-2018 Jordan Response Plan objective to provide post-basic education opportunities for vulnerable Jordanian and Syrian refugee youth. As Ms. Costanza Farina, UNESCO Representative to Jordan stated “The programme we are celebrating today is in strong support of the Jordan Response Plan to the Syria Crisis and is at the same time the result of efforts on the part of many. The programme played an important role in the lives of youth seeking to continue their education and to have the skills needed to pursue their ambitions afterward.”

UNESCO’s partnership with Al Quds College, made possible with funding from European Union represents an important milestone in collaborative programming in the country.
“Al Quds College has utilized its 36 years of experience serving youth in the area of vocational education and training to address the mismatch between skills and labour market demand. At Al Quds we equip our students with 21st century skills and core competencies.” Said Dr Ayman Maqableh, Dean of Al Quds College.
“Sustaining Quality Education and Promoting Skills Development for Young Syrian Refugees in Jordan”, is a four-year 4.3 million Euro project implemented by UNESCO and funded by the European Union to sustain quality education and promote skills development opportunities for young Syrian refugees and Jordanian youth impacted by the humanitarian crisis. This project aims to address the challenges posed by the continuing influx of Syrian refugees on the quality of education in Jordan. The project builds upon UNESCO’s experience and commitment to strengthening national capacities of the Education system.
