Grenada joined UNESCO on 17 February 1975. It is covered by the UNESCO Office in Kingston, Jamaica.

North of Trinidad and Tobago in the West Indies, Grenada is the world’s second largest producer of nutmeg and mace after Indonesia, supplying one quarter of the world’s demand. While Grenada used to produce a significant amount of cocoa beans and bananas, its agricultural production has declined and it is now turning towards tourism, a rapidly developing market.

Grenada is participating in a project of the Sustainable Development in Coastal Regions and Small Islands (CSI) programme, which aims to develop small islands’ capabilities to manage their beach resources effectively.

It is also linked to the Small Island Developing States Programme to develop World Heritage, among other activities.
