History

Founded 28 June 1948, Prague (Czech Rep), under the auspices of UNESCO and the international performing arts community, having existed unofficially since 1946. Charter/constitution last amended in 2014.

Aims

Promote international exchange of knowledge and practice in the domain of performing arts; stimulate creation and increase cooperation among performing arts people; increase public awareness of the need to take artistic creation into consideration in matters concerning development; deepen mutual understanding and contribute to consolidation of peace and friendship among peoples; defend the ideals and aims of UNESCO; combat all form of racism or social and political discrimination.
