History
Founded Aug 1949, London (UK), following an initiative undertaken by youth leaders from national youth councils of all member countries of the United Nations at international conference. Draft charter prepared Feb 1949, Ashbridge (UK); ratified at first official meeting of WAY, 1950, Brussels (Belgium). The charter was ratified by 29 of the national youth councils present. Amendments to Charter: 1950; 1951; 1952; 1953; 1956; 1958; 1962; 1964; 1966; 1969; 1972; 1976; 1983; 1988; 1993; 1995. Registered in accordance with Belgian law, 19 Aug 1972.

Bring people from different societies, communities and countries together to share ideas, thoughts and actions on how to improve cooperation on a global level and among youth.
