Most of the activities involving the country’s cooperation with UNESCO relate to World Heritage.
All of the tombs at Koguryo—a World Heritage site since 2004—are the focus of preservation and management projects. The UNESCO Beijing Office provides support to the Democratic People's Republic of Korea for compiling the World Heritage nomination file for the Historical Relics in Kaesong.
As a State Party to the Convention on the Means of Prohibiting and Preventing the Illicit Import, Export and Transfer of Ownership of Cultural Property, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea receives support from UNESCO for the convention's implementation.
