Nepal-UNESCO cooperation in the field of culture concerns heritage first and foremost.

One of the country’s sites - the renowned Katmandou Valley - is inscribed on the List of World Heritage in Danger. Major steps are being taken to safeguard it, improving management and raising awareness among
the local population and visitors of the diversity of this gigantic site that contains 130 monuments. Nepal is also making an effort to give local personnel training in cultural tourism, particularly in the west of the country which is poor and isolated yet has a magnificent cultural heritage.

In the field of arts and cultural enterprises, Nepal is training craftspersons in order to maintain the production of traditional objects in wood.

Buddhism and Hinduism coexist in the country and a number of activities have been organized to promote interreligious dialogue. Cultural diversity receives support from projects for the study of endangered languages and safeguarding of traditional song and dance.
