  • Vigdís Finnbogadóttir
    Her Excellency Vigdís Finnbogadóttir was designated UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador in 1998. She is a beloved public figure in Iceland and the first woman in Europe, and only the second woman in the world, to be elected Head of State.

    She has actively participated in the UNESCO Panel on Information and Communication and she presides over UNESCO’s World Commission on the Ethics of Scientific Knowledge and Technology. H.E. Vigdís Finnbogadóttir works to bring countries together in all domains, especially concerning women’s rights, ecology and education, and has always made every effort to spread these values among the young. She is an ardent supporter of multilingual education and linguistic diversity and regularly takes part in international conferences concerning these issues.

    Since 2003 H.E. Vigdís Finnbogadóttir is a member of the international jury of the Mondialogo School Contest. Mondialogo is an initiative that promotes intercultural dialogue and exchange among young people from all around the world.
