Hungary has seven cultural sites and one natural site on the World Heritage List and has proposed a varied Tentative List. The country has received aid from UNESCO for training in the management of the inscribed sites and historical towns.

Hungary cooperates closely with UNESCO in the field of intangible heritage. The Organization supports the European Institute of Folklore in Budapest in identifying, documenting, conserving, disseminating and protecting traditional European culture.
Hungary ratified the Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2006 and is a member of its Intergovernmental Committee.

Hungary devotes particular attention to cultural tourism as evidenced by the Regional Observatory on Financing Culture in Central and Eastern Europe, which was established with UNESCO’s support.
