With 25 sites inscribed on the World Heritage List and some 20 sites on its Tentative List, the United Kingdom devotes great attention to the safeguarding of its heritage and of all sites around the world. The country signed an agreement with UNESCO to reinforce its presence in campaigns to protect and enhance sites in developing countries.

The UK has distinguished itself as a pioneer in the field of cultural industries, with particular focus on creative cities in the framework of UNESCO’s Global Alliance for cultural diversity.
The country developed a project on culturally adapted communication strategies for HIV/AIDS, as part of the UNESCO programme on the cultural approach to HIV/AIDS prevention and care.
In the field of intercultural dialogue, the UK created a chair devoted to the study of different faiths around the world at the University of Birmingham as part of UNESCO’s programme on inter-religious dialogue.
The UK cooperated in UNESCO’s Histories programme: History of Humanity, General History of Africa, of Latin America, History of Civilizations of Central Asia and Different Aspects of Islamic Culture.
