In the field of cultural heritage, the Congo is striving to complete the training of its professionals for the Africa 2009 programme and has begun drawing up an inventory of the country’s sites of memory for the benefit of cultural tourism in Africa, the accent being on slavery and the slave trade.
Concerned with its natural heritage, the Congo also participates in the various activities of the Central Africa World Heritage Forest Initiative.
The country is making every effort to protect its intangible heritage and collaborates with the Central African Republic - which is represented on the List of Masterpieces of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity - on safeguarding the oral traditions of the Aka pygmies.
Programmes involving the arts and cultural enterprises are focused mainly on music - with the Brazzaville Pan-African Festival (FESPAM), the creation of centres for professional excellence- and crafts where emphasis is placed on juvenile delinquency and women.
