The five world Heritage sites - all of which are natural rather than cultural - of the Democratic Republic of the Congo are inscribed on the List of World Heritage in Danger because of their critical situation due to the instability of the region and the conflicts that have resulted in pillaging, destruction, burning, hunting and attacks on personnel.

The country is also striving to restore and promote its cultural heritage.
Cooperation with UNESCO has also contributed to restoration of intellectual copyright.

As regards intangible heritage, the Democratic Republic of the Congo is concerned about minority languages.

All in all the country is reviewing its cultural policies with the assistance of UNESCO for purposes of sustaining development in the hands of legislative bodies for culture.

Initiatives in respect of cultural industries are aimed in particular at young people in difficulty, as well as at women.

HIV prevention via the theatre, protection of Pygmies and memory of slavery too are the subject of cooperation.
