Sudan was the home of ancient and very brilliant civilizations that have left imposing material trace: one such site is inscribed on the World Heritage List, while the country has drawn up a Tentative List including several other sites.
For this purpose, the Sudanese Government received assistance from UNESCO.
The Organization also supports the preparation and evaluation of the country's cultural policies in line with the principles of cultural diversity.
Sudan is also associated with the project entitled "Sahara of Cultures and People" aimed at fighting poverty by developing tourism in a sustainable manner.
