In 2006, UNESCO dispatched a mission to Lebanon to evaluate the damage to cultural heritage resulting from warfare. Two projects were launched in 2007. One aims at reinforcing human resources for the digital documentation of World Heritage sites affected by armed conflicts. The second project is designed to encourage cultural reconciliation among Lebanese youth.
In the field of intangible heritage, the country is working to safeguard ancient Arab music. A CD-ROM of music from the Middle Ages, as the first step in a programme of research and wider promotion in partnership with academic institutions, has been released.
