As part of its cooperation with UNESCO, Palau has drawn up a tentative list of its natural and cultural sites with a view to inscribing them in due course on the World Heritage List, while at the same time making every effort to raise awareness among the population and decision-makers of the importance of the heritage.

The country works in concert with other island states in the Pacific. In the field of intangible heritage there is a project for the protection of the art of building traditional canoes in association with a number of customs, rites and feasts.
