On 7 October 2010, during a ceremony in which she was awarded a degree honoris causa in European and International Politics from the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore in Milan, Italy, UNESCO Director-General Irina Bokova detailed her vision of New Humanism for the 21st century. “New humanism must guide us in the conduct of development for the poorest countries,” she stated.
