STRATEGIC PLANNING

Side Event with Ministers of Education from Least Developed Countries

From 18-10-2007 to 18-10-2007 (France)

Side Event with Ministers of Education from Least Developed Countries

The Side Event with Ministers of Education from Least Developed Countries (LDCs) will be held at the 34th session of UNESCO’s General Conference in Room IX, UNESCO Headquarters, Paris, on 18 October 2007 from 9:30 a.m.– 13:00 p.m.

The Side Event is being organized in the context of the Organization’s action in favour of Least Developed Countries (LDCs). It will be a brief review of the strategic action of the Organization during the medium-term strategy period 2001-2007 (31 C/4), for which the General Conference had decided that the needs of LDCs would need to be mainstreamed into all Programmes. It will also focus on the results of the September 2006 High-level Meeting by the UN General Assembly on the Global Comprehensive Review of the Brussels Programme of Action, and in particular, on the main conclusions and recommendations of the EFA Global Monitoring Report. Participants are expected to have an open exchange of views on the priority needs of the LDCs to be addressed by specific and targeted interventions of UNESCO during the coming years, including through the reinforcement of South-South cooperation and North-South cooperation. The issue of integrating the entire range of the educational and scientific dimensions of UNESCO’s activities into UN common country programming documents, such as UNDAF, CCA, and the One Plan and other similar modalities will also be adressed.
