The President of Brazil, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva was designated the 2009 recipient of the Felix Houphouët-Boigny Peace Prize on 7 July, at UNESCO’s Headquarters in Paris. President Lula da Silva was selected because of his outstanding contribution to social justice, promotion of equality and facilitation of an inclusive political process in the pursuit of peace and improved standard of living.
