Youth – Partners: Cooperation with Youth Organisations
A youth organisation is defined by its focus on reflecting the views and serving the needs of young people. Whether these are structured organisations or informal groups, youth organisations provide a space where young people can learn and participate in decisions and activities with others.
Aiming at empowering young people and encouraging their full and equal participation in all spheres of society, UNESCO works closely with various kinds of youth organisations at all levels. This cooperation ranges from mutual consultation, to project planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation, selection of participants for Youth Forums and other youth meetings and dissemination of information.

  • National Youth Councils

Nomination of young participants to the Regional Youth Forums
Currently in the process of organizing Regional Youth Forums in each of the UN regions, as a follow-up to the recommendations of the 4th UNESCO Youth Forum, UNESCO has engaged the National Youth Councils of each participating country as additional partners for the nomination of youth delegates. This choice, based on the youth councils’ expertise on youth issues and their networking capacity, allows for a fruitful cooperation between National Commissions and National Youth Councils that helps ensure that all the delegates are competent, interested and motivated young people.
  • International and regional youth Organisations and networks

European Youth Forum (YFJ): The most recent cooperation between UNESCO and the European Youth Forum was in the context of the UNESCO Euro-Med Youth Forum on Intercultural and Interfaith Dialogue to Ensure Peace (Cyprus, 16-19 November 2006). On the one hand, members of the working structures of YFJ participated both in the e-dialogue that was held prior to the Forum for the determination of its sub-themes and at the Forum itself with observer status. On the other hand, the YFJ suggested 11 young people from its member organizations and its pool of trainers who could participate into the Forum as facilitators (two persons were finally selected by UNESCO).
UNESCO also works together with EYF to dissemine information about youth-related or youth-led events and initiatives, such as:
