Coalition of Cities against Discrimination in Asia and the Pacific

The Coalition of Cities against Discrimination in Asia and the Pacific (APCaRD) was officially founded on 4 August 2006, in Bangkok, Thailand, during the Regional Conference of Cities for an Inclusive Society in Asia and the Pacific organized jointly by UNESCO and the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA).

As of November 2007, around 30 cities, representing 13 countries on the Continent, participate in this regional coalition. The Coalition will remain open for signature by the cities and municipalities in the region wishing to join this network on the basis of the "Ten-Point Commitment". The procedure involves two stages in order to take into account the requirements of the decision-making processes of the various municipalities. Step 1) Signing of a Statement of Intent conveying the strong interest of the municipality for membership in the Coalition and its Ten-Point Commitment. Step 2) Signing of an Act of Accession and Commitment by which the municipality agrees to adhere the Coalition and its Ten-Point Commitment. The municipality thus agrees to implement this Commitment by incorporating it into municipal policies and strategies according to its own needs, priorities and capacities as well as allocating appropriate resources, and submits to the Administrative Secretariat its specific plan of implementation. 			An international coalition of cities against racism launched at the Nantes World Forum on Human Rights 27-06-2008 (UNESCOPRESS) - UNESCO launched an international coalition of cities against racism and discrimination at the 3rd World Forum on Human Rights in Nantes (France) which takes place from 30 June to 3 July. The agreement on the coalition was signed on 30 June, during the Forum’s opening ceremony, by Pierre Sané, UNESCO Assistant Director-General for Social and Human Sciences, and representatives of the 6 regional coalitions of cities against racism and discrimination.
