La Convention des Nations Unies sur les droits des travailleurs migrants est le traité international le plus complet dans le domaine des migrations et des droits humains. Adoptée en 1990 et entrée en vigueur en 2003, elle établit un standard en termes d'accès aux droits humains pour les migrants. Cependant, elle souffre d'une certaine réticence de la part des États : quarante États seulement l’ont ratifiée et très peu de grands pays d'immigration l’ont adoptée. Cela souligne le fait que les migrants sont largement oubliés quand il s’agit d’accéder aux droits fondamentaux. Même si leur travail est essentiel dans l'économie mondiale, l'aspect non-économique des migrations – et surtout les droits des migrants – demeure une dimension négligée de la mondialisation. Ce volume fournit des informations approfondies sur la Convention et sur les raisons de la réticence des États à sa ratification. Il réunit des chercheurs, des fonctionnaires internationaux et des membres d’ONG, et se fonde sur une perspective interdisciplinaire qui comprend non seulement des approches juridiques, mais aussi sociologiques et politiques.
