Under the Organization's Priority Africa initiative, UNESCO has a number of programmes and activities responding to HIV and AIDS in Africa. The Organization works with local governments and civil society organisations through 15 offices on the continent, listed here.

Most of the HIV and AIDS-related projects are focused in East and Southern Africa and West Africa, the regions most affected by the pandemic.
