  • UNESCO Goodwill Ambassadors, Special Envoys and Artists for Peace attend UNESCO’s 65 Anniversary Celebration event

    17-12-2010 2:30 pm On 14 December 2010, UNESCO Director-General Irina Bokova was joined at UNESCO’s Headquarters by her three predecessors Amadou-Mahtar M’Bow (1974 to 1987), Federico Mayor (1987 to 1999) and Koïchiro Matsuura (1999 to 2009) to celebrate the 65th anniversary of the adoption of UNESCO’s constitution, signed in London on 16 November 1945.

    Each one of the three former Directors-General delivered an enthusiastic address emphasizing the significant role UNESCO has played promoting international cooperation. For her part, Director-General Irina Bokova referred to the ceremony as a source of strength and an opportunity to come together and restate our commitment to the ambition of doing better and being stronger.
    The ceremony gathered UNESCO Goodwill Ambassadors Mr Ara Abramian, Mrs Mehriban Aliyeva, Mr Pierre Bergé, Mrs Claudia Cardinale, Mrs Vigdis Finbogadottir, Mrs Bahia Hariri Mr Vitaly Ignatenko, Mr Jean-Michel Jarre, , Mr Marc Ladreit de Lacharrière, Professor Jean Malaurie, Mrs Ute-Henriette Ohoven, Lady Owen Jones, Mrs Kim Phuc Phan Thi, HE Sheikh Ghassan I Shaker and Mrs Marianna Vardinoyanis, UNESCO Special Envoy for Literacy on Development HRH Princess Laurentien and UNESCO Artists for Peace Mrs Franghiz Ali-Zadeh, Mr Amri Aminov, Mr Chiko Bouchikhi, Mr Alain Husson-Dumoutier, Countess Setsuko Klossowska, Mr Serguei Markarov and Mrs Maria de Medeiros.
