History

1928, Paris (France), at 1st International Conference of Social Work, as Permanent Committee of the International Conferences of Social Work -- Comité permanent des conférences internationales du service social -- Ständiger Ausschuss der Internationalen Konferenz für Soziale Arbeit. Reorganized: 1946; 1966. Constitution amended: 4 Sep 1982, Brighton (UK); 1986, Tokyo (Japan); 2007, Utrecht (Netherlands).

Aims

Promote forms of social and economic development which aim to reduce poverty, hardship and vulnerability, especially amongst disadvantaged people; strive for recognition and protection and realization of fundamental rights to employment, income, food, shelter, education, health care and security; promote equality of opportunity, freedom of expression, freedom of association, participation and access to human services and oppose discrimination; promote policies and programmes which strike an appropriate balance between social and economic goals and which respect cultural diversity; strengthen civil society worldwide; seek implementation of objects by governments, international organizations and non-governmental agencies in cooperation with member organizations.
