Aims

Facilitate contact and exchange of views between and among lawyers and lawyers' associations of all countries; foster understanding and goodwill among them; work together to achieve the aims set out in the United Nations Charter; ensure common action by lawyers in the study and practice of democratic principles, making for maintenance of peace and cooperation among nations; restore, defend and develop democratic rights and liberties in legislation and its practice; promote independence of all peoples and oppose any restriction on this independence whether in law or in practice; defend and promote human rights and peoples' rights; promote preservation of ecology and healthy environment; work for strict adherence to rule of law and independence of the judiciary and legal profession; defend peoples' rights to development and to conditions of economic equality, enjoyment of the fruits of scientific progress and of natural resources.
