This booklet is a simplification of Guyana's Education Sector Policy on School Health, Nutrition and HIV& AIDS. It was designed for students, teachers, managers, employers, and other providers of education and training in educational institutions in Guyana. The booklet is intended to be an easy-to-use education and reference tool for Guyana's education sector – both formal and informal, and public and private. Its simplified content will allow for easier assimilation of the policy, and, consequently, greater understanding of individual, institutional and organizational rights and obligations.
Globally, several studies have pointed to the positive impact that life skills-based health education programmes have on the attitudes and behaviours of young people, but no such evaluation had been conducted in the Caribbean. With the development of a Regional Curriculum Framework to support the delivery of Health and Family Life Education (HFLE) in CARICOM countries, it was considered an opportune time to not only monitor the implementation of the Framework but to also assess its impact on students. …
The overall objectives of this rapid survey undertaken by EduCan in early 2008 are to inform the development of both regional and national level education sector policies and strategies on school health, nutrition and HIV in the Caribbean region. The survey also aims to describe the current situation of education sector response to school health, nutrition, HIV and stigma, and to provide a baseline for monitoring progress. It also aims to provide data on the allocation and mobilization of resources used in such education sector responses across the region.
