Dominica joined UNESCO on January 9, 1979. The country is covered by the UNESCO Office in Kingston, Jamaica. Dominica works actively with UNESCO, especially on education.

UNESCO has helped the Ministry of Education to put in place a national Education for All plan and the UNESCO Office based in Kingston has organised training and work groups. As a result of this assistance, Dominica was able to host the second meeting on higher education in the Caribbean in 2004.

As of September 2006, Dominica has 10 schools participating in the UNESCO’s Associated Schools Project Network (ASPnet).
