Haiti joined UNESO on November 18, 1946. The Organization has an Office at Port-au-Prince. The Haitian government, in co-operation with the European Union and UNESCO, organized a workshop in March 2005 on community participation in schools.

The workshop took place in the framework of a joint programme for the improvement of the quality of education through local community involvement. As of September 2006, Haiti has 21 schools participating in UNESCO’s Associated Schools Project Network (ASPnet).
