    Peru joined UNESCO in 1946. The1993 Peruvian Constitution recognizes the right to education, and stipulates that it should be compulsory for all children until the age of 16.

    According to the 2005 edition of the Education For All Global Monitoring Report, Peru is currently situated in an intermediate position as regards its fulfilment of the Education For All objectives.

    As of September 2006, Peru has 70 schools participating in the UNESCO’s Associated Schools Project Network (ASPnet).
