Kenya joined UNESCO on April 7, 1964. The establishment of the UNESCO Nairobi Office in 1965 further involved the country in UNESCO activities.
A major concern of the Education Sector Strategic Plan in Kenya is to accelerate progress towards universal primary education, the government’s first priority.
Kenya is very active in the Southern and Eastern Africa Consortium for Monitoring Education Quality (SACMEQ).
