Dignity

Dignity and Respect

Being a global citizen also means to promote mutual tolerance and respect for all people regardless of gender, sexual orientation, national, ethnic or religious identity in order to achieve a more peaceful and sustainable future. Valuing the dignity and human rights of each and every one is therefore vital for Global Citizenship Education. This also includes respect for and the promotion of Gender Equality.

UNESCO considers that it is especially important to reach out to children and young people during their formative years, notably through educational materials and curricula, to strengthen the foundations of tolerance, reduce discrimination and violence, and learn to live together.
